Babel

This idea has been in my head for a month and took a week to create. I'm so happy with how it ended up I thought I'd give you a little preview before I list it.

This is a necklace I made to celebrate Mumford and Son's new album, out on the 25th (16 days woo!)
The flags are their logo. They are nautical flags that each stand for a letter of the word, B-A-B-E-L.
I first embroidered the flags onto some sturdy canvas, then stitched that to some leather to give it some weight, durability, and so that I had a way to secure the edges from fraying. The flags hang from brass colored chain.

I planned to release a how-to so you can understand how I did this even better, but then the day before I put all the peices of the necklace together, my camera decides to walk itself out of my drawer and hide itself somewhere. I've looked all day and can't find it, and the how-to pics are all on the memory card:( As soon as I find it, you can count on a DIY

Folk Love

Lately, folk music has become more and more appealing. It's so different than the indie tunes that I normally love, but there's something about the raw simplicity of it that speaks to me. This week, "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show has been my jam. So I fell in love when I found this:
Isn't it amazing?!? Nisse Noble from n2design has some serious skills. I am saving up so I can get one of my own starting today!
If you don't know the song, don't miss out! here's a wonderfull cover by Mumford and Sons-

My Obsession

It didn't take long for me to fall in love with Mumford and Sons. Their music is just so passionate and powerful, I can't get enough of it! (3 weeks untill their new album woo!) ...and so I came up with these bracelets to always remind me of their music. I used a woodburner on strips of leather to make wrap bracelets, soon to be listed in my etsy shop! here's a preview of one of the first ones I made, I think I might have to keep it(:

DIY Lyric-Back Shirt

Everyone has a song that they love, one whose every note speaks everything they believe in. I wanted a way to take it with me and share it, so I thought, why not wear the song? and so I did. I picked Awake My Soul by Mumford and Sons, one of my very favorite songs from my absolute favorite bands(:

DIY LYRIC BACK SHIRT

Supplies-
  • shirt streched on a piece of cardboard
  • chalk pastels
  • bleach pen
  • a sink full of water plus 11/2 cup vinegar
  • soap
  • washing machine ready to run
Instructions
  1. Choose a song. It's a good idea to print out the lyrics for this, because if you mess up a word you can't go back and fix it.
  2. Take a chalk pastel that will show up on your shirt and lightly write they lyrics wherever you'd like them. Pay attention to the spacing to make sure you can fit all the words that you want.
  3. Using the bleach pen, trace the words you chalked on. Try to keep the stream of bleach smooth so there aren't and big clumps, that way the color will turn out even.
  4. Watch the bleach do its magic!
  5. Wait for the words to bleach evenly. At this point I stood up the cardboard vertically so that I could write the name of the song on the front as well.
  6. Quickly remove the shirt from the cardboard and immediatly submerge it in the vinegar water in the sink. The vinegar will help neautralize the bleach so it won't spread and the words will remain readable. Add some soap, and make sure you swish it around plenty to get the bleach off. Then stick it alone into your washing machine to get it completely bleach free
  7. Wear and enjoy the compliments!

Let the Games Begin!

How else would I spend a friday night but crafting up something new? I whipped up these vintage-style cameo necklaces while the olympics began. Even though I was only half paying attention, I had to look up when Paul McCartney started singing. His voice is so passinate no matter how it fades with age. Gorgeous!

I'm hoping to get these photographed and listed soon!

Country Darling Bracelet

I got the idea for this bracelet a few weeks ago when I found the lovely fabric in an antique store in ohio. It looked so cute and dainy, but it needed a littled bit of twine for a rustic feel and pearls to pull it all together, so this is what I came up with
